Musical Biography
Involved in music from a very young age as a singer, Laura-May bought her first guitar at 15, and taught herself how to play through Metallica riffs and Tracy Chapman songs. She enrolled at a the ESCM, a Parisian performing arts school, in 2003 where she studied music, dance and theatre and was given the opportunity to perform in a reworked version of the musical A Chorus Line in the 200-year old Parisian theatre “Théâtre des Variétés''. Following some earlier freelance work, she was recruited by French guitar and music publication Guitar Part in 2007, to work full-time on interviews, articles, translations, content for a website and explanations of musical technique videos.
Starting in her teens she joined several bands in many different genres in France and the UK. She fronted hardcore, punk rock, folk-rock bands and various other projects over the years, also performing in the Parisian palace Hotel George V with an acapella group. She was invited to perform with her blues-rock project on musical show Blabla Wilson for national channel France O in 2011.
Having previously recorded and written songs with talented musician Shanka (No One Is Innocent, The Dukes...) she participated in two records under the name of his project Destruction Inc., one of which (the Dogman’s Tales) was released in 2008. She has since gone on to write for various other bands. All of these projects allowed her to experiment with different types of music, though she remains open to projects and collaborations in many different genres. Since moving to Los Angeles she has appeared as a guitarist in commercials and music videos.
